DIY Living Room Transformation - One Room Challenge: Weeks 5 , 6 & 7
It’s week 7 and we’re officially one week away from the ORC finish line. Progress is certainly being made. Enough progress to be finished by week 8? That remains to be seen lol. Here’s what we’ve completed so far though:
Week 2 - Design Concept & Sourcing
Week 3 - Space Plan & Sectional Delivery (scroll to the bottom of the page)
For weeks 5, 6, and 7 we’re getting into the rug delivery, paint on the walls and curtains!
What’s left to be done over the next two weeks?
Priority: install sconces, hang curtains & wall decor, accessorize & style.
Non-priority, but like to haves: new coffee & side table, floating shelves for display of books, vinyls & objects and, lastly, a new idea after being inspired by a hotel room visit, bead trim molding to frame the ceiling. That last one is ambitious lol.
With the way the budget is budgeting and the holidays quickly approaching, this project may carry over into next year. And that’s ok.
Week 5: Rug
Speaking of budgets, thanks to Ruggable for gifting me with the Indra rug from their Pantone Collection. To save on costs, I decided to pitch to a few brands to request gifted product in exchange for content and after a call explaining what the ORC is, Ruggable excitedly said yes. Without this rug, I’m not sure how this design idea would have come together. It ties in the sofa and paint colors perfectly!
Week 6: Paint
The painters are here and we finally have coverings on the walls! SW Evergreen Fog paint to be exact. The color is perfect for the space. Not too dark that it feels weighty and not too light that you can’t tell it’s green. I wish I got De’Jon’s reaction on camera as he was pleasantly surprised. Seeing a tiny swatch and computer generated mockup is one thing, experiencing a fully painted wall under natural light is another.
Week 7: Curtains
With the paint being done, we can now dive into more decorative things like the window treatments. I have two options for the windows: Ikea SKOGSSTJÄRNA gray-green patterned curtains and Inovaday solid pinch-pleat curtains in Ivory. I was gifted the Inovaday curtains and initially decided to use them in the dining area beside the sliding glass doors and eventually get patterned dining chairs to add visual interest.
Now, I’m wondering how the solid curtains will look in the living room and the patterned ones in the dining. The good thing about this is the rods will be the same so I can switch the curtains around to get the look I want.
What do you think?
