DIY Living Room Transformation - One Room Challenge: Week 2…and 3
In between Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton, I had to take an unexpected trip home to be present for a family emergency. I left my work things behind and made myself flexible to be a support during a time of need. A trip that was supposed to be two days, turned into a full week due to flight cancellations as a result of Milton making landfall in Tampa Bay.
I came back home to the area in a bit of a panic state due to widespread flooding, structural damage and gas and power outages. Thankfully, my family is good and our home suffered no damage, only a power outage for a few days which came back on the day we were leaving for our (pre-planned) getaway.
Said getaway wasn't supposed to be a working one, but with my projects officially a week behind, I had to pack the laptop and work on both week 2 and 3 ORC updates in between the rest and relaxation.
So here's where things are:
Design Concept & Sourcing
Week 2:
I shared the the before photos and design concept on Week 1’s blog post. I want the space to feel modern, conversational, artsy with a bit of whim. For the paint, Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog was at the top of my list of neutral greens to pair with the powdery blue Joybird sectional along with a quirky rug from Ruggable’s Pantone collaboration that ties everything together. The accent chair is still pending, but I’m thinking something in the brown family to coordinate with the existing tv cabinet. Natural elements will be present through greenery selections and marble accents while the hardware will be a mix of black and chrome.
Deliveries & Paint
Week 3:
Cheers to going with the flow for week 3. Ideally, there’s an order of events with deliveries/installs. Old sofa out, walls painted, new rug laid and then new sectional put into place. Do you think any of that happened in the order it was supposed to?
We have the old sofa for listed on FB marketplace, but it hasn’t sold just yet. The painter and I had to reschedule several times due to back to back hurricanes and unexpected travel. The rug is officially on the way and the biggest piece, the Joybird sectional, has delivered, yay! See the delivery in week 3’s Reel .
As mentioned before, I’ll also be swatching SW Evergreen Fog on the walls to see how it looks in our south facing window living room. I also sampled SW Escape Gray as a lighter option in case Evergreen Fog is not the right shade. Dried Thyme is a more olivey option that I didn’t sample, but in the same color story as the other two so I that would be my third option if the first two aren’t giving enough green.
Next week, the painter is coming to scope the space and give us an estimate for the full open floor plan paint job. We didn’t want to DIY this part. Painting is more challenging that it appears and requires lots of prep when working around exisiting furniture and appliances.
In week 4’s Reel & Tik Tok, I’m giving tips on how to choose a paint color for the girls who have swatches just sitting around collecting dust. Is that you? 👀
In the mean time…
